T-Rell “I Deserve” …Finally, An Anthem For Good Men [Music Video]

Uh oh, fellas! Your male anthem has finally arrived, with T-Rell’s latest hit single, “I Deserve”.

With the rise of emotionally charged conversations surrounding mental health and social justice issues since the start of the pandemic, which tend to be mostly female-driven, there has been a silent but steadily growing male movement developing, where men have taken to their social media to verbally declare that they do not feel that they receive fair treatment from women they are involved with. Whether it be men who are co-parenting, boyfriends, significant others, husbands; many seem to have shared a common nuisance on social media: That women are never satisfied, no matter what…

Well, Topeka, Kansas R&B artist, T-Rell, bluntly affirms this general male consensus in his new hit single, “I Deserve”, which reached as high as the #1 spot on Apple’s iTunes R&B charts during its debut on Friday, July 8, 2022. Prior to its official release, the song sneak previewed in a video clip on T’Rell’s TikTok and Instagram, receiving 3 million views in just 3 days on TikTok, and over 400 thousand views on Instagram.

T-Rell got the blessing from Grammy/AMA/Soul Train Music Awards nominated R&B recording artist, Tank, on the music for the song, with the track utilizing the original beat from Tank’s hit single, “Maybe I Deserve”, from the ‘Force of Nature’ album in 2001. Tank, who is also an actor and producer, was featured in the sneak preview video, sitting at a piano, while T-Rell sings over his version of the recorded song with great emotion and melodic vocals.

Despite the fact that Tank’s song was released over two decades ago and was highly popular among the ladies, T-Rell’s has taken a different side of the story and has quickly become most popular amongst men, according to my personal analysis of fan comments on popular social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. One male YouTube fan even went so far as to say, “This is the REAL MEN anthem… T Rell this what women need to hear [‘100’ emoji, 4 fire emojis]”.

Although the two hit songs share the same beat, they vastly contrast in context, having totally different relationship viewpoints on “who deserves”. Tank’s takes the angle of a man who has done his woman wrong time after time and feels that she “maybe” deserves someone who will treat her better, while T-Rell’s takes the angle of a man who does everything for his woman without receiving any appreciation or gratitude, who feels he is taken for granted, not very loved, and deserves more from her. He removes the “maybe” from the original song title completely, and is like, ‘You got me messed up woman. I KNOW that I DESERVE’. Lol (my words, not his)!

As a woman, I even felt T-Rell’s pain at the very beginning of the song, where he starts off with, “I don’t feel like you love me, I don’t feel like you care”. To hear that coming from a man, a good man at that, is so deep. There is a lot of pain buried in this song that I am sure that a lot of good men can relate to. He then goes on to talk about what he wants and expects out of the relationship, as he harmoniously proclaims, “I really pay the rent and the car note”, he wants his “back rubbed…”, “…I deserve me some peace and quiet…”, “…I deserve me a home cooked meal…”, “…I just want to play my game in peace and go to sleep without you checking my phone…”, and some sexually explicit things that I cannot speak of in this article (smile).

The music video for “I Deserve” released on July 12, 2022, has already been a hit on YouTube, with over 25,000 views as of the time of this article.

It is currently featured in a top spot on HomeBase Radio’s MillenGen Z R&B playlist on Spotify.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely look forward to hearing more good music from T-Rell. I also think I hear a remix of this song featuring Tank coming in the very near future! It’s only in my head right now, but you know what I’m saying (side eye)…

In the meantime, you can check out T-Rell in a city near you while he is on his “Dedication to R&B” Tour.

New dates and cities may be added, so for the most up-to-date info, definitely follow T-Rell on all of his official social media platforms. Tickets to the tour can be purchased on his website, www.trelllive.com.
